What is AmazonFresh and Amazon Prime Pantry? Is it available to me?

I am one of those weirdo's that actually like to shop for groceries and household items.  You can't drag me to a mall, I abhor shopping for clothing, I have zero interest in purses and I buy shoes when I have to but I look forward to my grocery and household item shopping trips!

I have checked into online grocery delivery options however, many times.  I first used an online grocery shopping site back around 2001 or 2002.  A family I knew was struggling, as they had just relocated to a new state, the husband ended up losing the promised new job, the wife was trying desperately to find a job as well and they had two daughter's.  I went online, found a grocery delivery site and had a surprise box of groceries delivered.  I found out later how important that was to them at that time and what a blessing it was; they were in such need at the time and told no one.  The food I sent was a God-send to them.

Later I delivered food groceries to two kids in college, still later, had food delivered to both after they got into their own new places after graduation and then finally, I've looked into all online options more recently when I've looked into having groceries delivered to my 90 year old father-in-law who still lives by himself, quite independently and still drives but he lives out in the country, on a farm, about 20 miles from the nearest little, small town with a grocery store.

One of the things I wanted for him was fresh food delivery.  That led me to looking into Amazon's fresh delivery service; however I found out it's currently only available to certain cities and locations.  When you go to their site, you put in your zip code and it will tell you if it's available in your area.

While I love the idea of getting fresh meats as well as vegetables delivered, it is not available in my FIL's area; nor is it in mine either.

However, Amazon's prime pantry program is available to most because it doesn't ship fresh items.  Therefore, makes delivery easier.  I personally am not a prime member; but most of my friends and family members are.

What is Prime Pantry?

Prime members can shop for groceries and household products in everyday sizes, such as a single box of cereal, with Prime Pantry.

Prime Pantry offers a wide selection of products and exclusive savings such as weekly deals and coupons. You can purchase groceries and household items on our website or by using the free Amazon app.

We have thousands of items available, including snacks, breakfast foods, beverages, beauty and personal care items, and household products. Skip the trip to the grocery store and let us do the heavy lifting.

Do I need to fill 100% of the box before placing my order?

No. Your Pantry box does not need to be filled to 100%. You can buy as little or as much as you would like in your Pantry box.

Do I need to pay $5.99 for delivering a Prime Pantry box even though I am a Prime member?

Yes, Prime Pantry has a flat $5.99 delivery fee per box.

If I do not fill 100% of the box, will I be shipped a huge box with only a couple of items in it?

Prime Pantry boxes vary in size and can hold up to 45 pounds. Your order will be packaged in an appropriate-sized box, based on the dimensions and weight of the items. Depending on your order, the box could be as small as a shoe box or as large as a suitcase.

How do you determine how much of the box is filled?

We calculate a space and weight percentage for each item in the box. For example, while a 12-pack of soda weighs more than a six-pack of paper towels, they have the same percentage because the paper towels take up more space in the box. In addition to the amount of space each box offers, we also work within a set of weight limits.

I'm a Prime member. Why isn't my Prime Pantry order going to be delivered in two days?

Due to their size and weight, Prime Pantry boxes are shipped via ground shipping. Orders may take 1-4 business days to arrive.

Will my Amazon (non-Pantry) items in my shopping cart be shipped with my Prime Pantry order?

No. Prime Pantry orders are shipped separately from other Amazon orders

Can I have a Prime Pantry box delivered to Alaska or Hawaii?

At this time, Prime Pantry boxes cannot be shipped to Alaska or Hawaii. Due to their size and weight, Prime Pantry boxes are shipped using ground shipping. They can only be delivered to addresses in the contiguous U.S., excluding P.O. Boxes, APO/FPO, and Amazon Lockers.

Since I am the weirdo who loves to grocery shop and household pantry item shop and look forward to it every other week (payday!) I don't use either of these services yet.  But I do have friends and family who do and so far they are happy with the service and it helps them manage their time running their busy families.

I wanted to include the information for my readers as well as myself.  The links are affiliate links as I have an Amazon affiliate membership but obviously that doesn't change the cost of the service to you if you decide this is a program that you could use in your life to make things a little bit easier.

Just remember; the AmazonFresh program is not available in many markets yet - I checked and it's not available for my father-in-laws area (which is what originally led me to researching AmazonFresh in the first place!).  Hopefully some of my readers will find it helpful though.
