I'm Catholic in faith, conservative in politics and a little too sarcastic for my own good. Married at 18 to my high school sweetheart since forever ago; I’m a wife, a Mom to 3 young adults, 'Amma' to two little boys; and my day doesn’t start until I’ve had 3 cups of strong, hot, black coffee and at least 10 minutes of silence for 'me'.
I previously worked for the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development and a beautiful historical museum but resigned to follow my husband to his job in the deep South for our 11th relocation across the USA. The daily commute of a housewife is much more enjoyable and has less traffic, so why do I miss the office?

How I came up with the url name of my site (HousewifeBarbie.com)
Back in the late 90's, my Mom-friends and I had a discussion that revolved around the fact that at the time, the Barbie Doll had done everything from being an astronaut to a doctor to a teacher, but they would never let Barbie be 'just' a housewife. Gasp! As a joke, my friends deemed me the the original 'Housewife Barbie'.
When I had to think of a url for a website back in 2005/2006, it was just to store my own recipe files; I thought it would be funny to use my nickname at the time as it was just a website of recipes for myself.
In hindsight I wish I had used my blog name (An American Housewife) but...
I had NO IDEA this site would grow and become what it has
with almost 1.4 million visits
or I probably would not have chosen
such a silly name in my url!
The name "An American Housewife" is a take-off of that nickname and the name of a cookbook I had always hoped to publish since the late 1990's (and still would like to) but was always too busy.
I'm proud to be an American and proud to be a housewife.
Note: I do not publish articles written by others as guest posts.
