This recipe may not be as 'old as the hills' but it's close. It's as old as your Great Grandmother anyway! Top these with a simple chocolate icing made from powdered sugar, butter and a little vanilla along with either about 1 1/2 squares melted chocolate or some cocoa powder. The amount of chocolate is up to your own tastes.
Old Fashioned Chocolate Drop Cookies
1/2 c butter
1 c brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
1½ squares chocolate, melted
1/2 c milk
1/2 t soda
1 1/2 c flour
1 c nuts (optional)
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, chocolate, milk. Sift flour and soda, then add it and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees until springy to the touch.
